June 25 / Not just lucky

"The process of coming to believe brings us back to reason. The power to act comes from this belief."
Basic Text, p. 29

Coming to believe is a purely personal process that stems from our experience. Each of us has this experience. All of us recovering NA addicts have rocking evidence that a beneficent Force is at work in our lives. Speaking of which, those of us recovering today are lucky. Too many drug addicts die from this disease without being given the opportunity to experience what we found in Narcotics Anonymous.

In the process of coming to believe we need to expand our understanding to recognize the miracles that occur. We share the miracle of being clean, and each of us will recognize other miracles along the way. How many times have we escaped a car accident or an overdose or any other disasters? Looking back on our lives can we see that we weren't just 'lucky'? After all, the experience we have gained in recovery shows us that a Higher Power cares for our good.

When we can see the evidence that a loving Higher Power has worked for us in the past, it is easier for us to believe that the Higher Power will continue to care for us in the future. And faith gives us the strength to move forward.

Just for today

My recovery is not an accident. My strength comes from knowing that my Higher Power has never left me and will continue to guide me.
