Most of us in recovery will face various challenges and need to make choices. For example, if we suffer from severe physical pain, we will need to decide whether to take medicine or not. We should be honest with ourselves about how much pain we are in, with our doctor about the fact that we are addicted, and finally with our supporter. Anyway, we will decide, because we will suffer the consequences.
Many times, we will need to decide whether to go somewhere where there is alcohol. Each time, we need to examine what state we are in. If we are joined by someone we feel safe with, even better. However, if we feel that we probably won't be able to stand it, it's better not to go. Today, we are well aware that protecting our recovery is more important than our 'image'.
It is not easy to make such decisions; we need to be vigilant, seek help from our supporter and leave ourselves in the hands of a Higher Power. With the help of all these, we make the best possible decision. In the end, the choice is always ours. Today we are responsible for our recovery.
